Well turns out we spent today going over my question! and I basically had everything wrong haahah so I guess it's good we did. Any thoughts on Grendel though? I'm reading the extra credit book and it's really interesting and helpful in understanding the anglo-saxons. Just reading Beowulf I wasn't really seeing and understanding their whole tribe versus tribe wars. I mean how I was picturing the anglo-saxons' lives is a lot different than what they actually were! (Which is way more barbaric...) x_x I actually kind of see Grendel in a completely different light! Then again I am only on chapter three so there is still room for that to change.

Reading Grendel, makes me kind of like Grendel. While reading I caught myslef thinking well he's not so bad. I like that I get to see a side of him that we don't hear about. WE usually don't associate monsters with having their own stuggles. Its different, and interesting.

Yes, I totally agree! I actually kind of like Grendel now and can see his rationale for the things he does. You're right though, we never do associate monsters with having human characteristics at all. I think it's a shame becuase I realized how incredibly one-sided perpectives can be! Even my own view of Grendel was completely negative before reading about his side of the story!

I agree, the book definitely makes you see the story in a different perspective that makes you feel kind of sorry for Grendel. Despite him being a ruthless monster, he's doing it out of jealousy and wants to be like those that he kills.
